This rebate pays $285 per year (indexed annually on 1 July) or $0.7808 (GST excl) per day towards the cost of electricity in your household. depend on the number of days in each billing period. It's paid in instalments through your Discover Energy electricity bill – the exact amount paid on each bill will depend on the number of days in each billing period.

It's designed to assist eligible Discover Energy customers with all household energy costs, but is applied on the electricity bill only.

You'll need one of these concession cards:

a. Pensioner Concession Card issued by Centrelink or Department of Veterans' Affairs

b. Centrelink Health Care Card

c. Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card (for recipients of War Widow or War Widower

d. Totally and Permanently Incapacitated rate or Extreme Disablement Adjustment rate pensions).

A concession can be claimed only if:

a. you are a resident of NSW

b. the energy account is in the name of the concession card holder

c. the supply address is the domestic primary place of residence

d. you are a customer of the retailer, or a long term resident of an on-supplied residential community, or a resident of an on-supplied retirement village, or a resident of an on-supplied strata scheme.

The following cardholders are ineligible:

a. Centrelink Child Disability Healthcare cards

b. Centrelink Foster Care Healthcare cards

c. DVA Dependent and Specific Conditions cards

d. Commonwealth State Seniors cards

e. Commonwealth Seniors Health cards.

If you use a life support machine at home, you may qualify for this concession – even if you claim other rebates like the NSW Government Low Income Household Rebate, the Medical Energy Rebate or the Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA) scheme. Rebates are calculated on a daily basis and are applied to each bill.

You don't need a concession card to receive this rebate.

Eligible equipment and rebates

You can receive more than one rebate if you have more than one type of life support machine in your home. Just make sure that all machines prescribed by your doctor are included in the application.

Are you eligible?

To receive this rebate:

a. the account holder or another occupant in your household requires one or more of the eligible medical equipment above to sustain their life

b. you must complete an application form signed by your doctor to verify the need for specific in-house medical equipment.

This rebate is for eligible customers who can't self-regulate body temperature when exposed to extreme (hot or cold) temperatures. This is common with medical conditions like Parkinson's disease and Multiple Sclerosis.

It pays $285 per year (indexed annually on 1 July) or $0.7808 (GST excl) per day in instalments through your Discover Energy electricity bill. You can receive it in addition to other assistance such as the NSW Government Low Income Household Rebate, the Life Support Rebate and the Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA) scheme.

Are you eligible?

To receive this rebate, either the account holder or another person residing at the residence must have an inability to self-regulate body temperature. You need to get a form signed by a medical practitioner who has been treating the patient for at least three months.

This rebate helps NSW families to pay their electricity bills. It pays $20 or up to $180 annually, depending on your eligibility.

Are you eligible?

If you reside in NSW and were eligible for the Federal Government's Family Tax Benefit A or B at any time during the last financial year, then you may be able to claim this rebate. You must be the primary account holder for your electricity account.

This concession is applied as a daily amount of $0.8489c per day (GST excl) for a total of $340.85 per annum (GST incl). It's paid in instalments through each electricity bill - but the exact amount paid on each bill will depend on the number of days in each billing period.

Are you eligible?

You'll need one of these concession cards:

a. Pensioner Concession Card issued by Centrelink or Department of Veterans' Affairs

b. Queensland Government Seniors Card

c. Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Cards (for recipients of War Widow or War Widower, or Totally and Permanently Incapacitated rate pensions)

d. Centrelink Health Care Card

e. Bridging Visa Holders, with Asylum Seeker status.

A concession can be claimed only if:

a. you are a resident of QLD

b. the energy account is in the name of the concession card holder

c. the supply address is the domestic primary place of residence

You can claim the rebate for premises where you live alone or share the home with:

a. your spouse

b. other persons who hold an eligible concession card

c. other persons wholly dependent on you

d. other persons who receive an income support payment from Centrelink, the Family Assistance Office, or the Department of Veterans' Affairs and who do not pay rent

e. other persons who live with the cardholder to provide care and assistance, and who do not pay rent.

This provides financial assistance to seriously ill people who use either an oxygen concentrator or kidney dialysis machine as a home-based life support system.

To qualify, you need a medical assessment in accordance with the eligibility criteria determined by Queensland Health.

This scheme provides one-off emergency assistance to low-income households suffering a short-term financial crisis (within the past 12 months). It's available to eligible customers who can't pay their current electricity and are at risk of disconnection.

This concession is available to assist low-income concession card holders in Queensland who have a medical condition that requires the use of electricity for cooling or heating to regulate body temperature.

If you are eligible, the Queensland Government will pay this concession in quarterly installments directly into your bank account.

Rebates for Residential Home Parks and Multi-unit Premises

Owners or proprietors of residential home parks or multi-unit residences are required to advise residents that electricity rebates are available, and must claim the rebates on behalf of eligible residents.

The rebate is available for premises where the proprietor/owner:

a. holds an account with Discover Energy

b. supplies electricity to each of the separately identifiable vans, flats or home units

c. charges for electricity used by residents based on metered consumption.

How to apply

The proprietor/owner is responsible for submitting the application form on the resident's behalf.

You may qualify for various concessions that Discover Energy can assist you with on behalf of the SA State Government.
Eligibility conditions vary, and may change from time to time. Find the latest information below.

This pays up to $231.41(excl GST) / $254.551 (incl GST) per year or $0.634 (GST excl)/ $0.6974 (incl GST) per day, with the concession applied directly to your electricity bills.

You may be eligible if you have one of the following cards:

a. Pensioner Concession Card or Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card (War Widow or War Widower, Totally and Permanently Incapacitated rate or Extreme Disablement Adjustment rate pensions)

b. Centrelink Health Care Card (including a low income health care card)

c. Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card.

d. DVA Gold Card issued to a person with 80 or more overall impairment points under the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004

You may also be eligible if you receive certain Centrelink allowances or if you hold Asylum Seeker status.

To claim your concession:

a. the address for which you are claiming must be your principal place of residence

b. the energy account must be in the name of the concession cardholder

c. you must not be living with anyone who has an income of more than $3,000 per year, unless they are your spouse/domestic partner/dependant, or they receive an allowance from Centrelink or the Department of Veterans' Affairs. This scheme is administered by DHS – you need to submit your application to them.

You may be able to get an Emergency Electricity Payment Scheme (EEPS) payment if you're at risk of your electricity being disconnected. EEPS is only accessible through financial counsellors who will assess your financial situation before lodging an application. You can only receive an EEPS payment once every three years.

If you have a clinically verified medical condition and need frequent use of heating or cooling in your home to prevent the severe exacerbation of the condition, you may qualify for this rebate. It is available to people on a fixed or low income.

This pays up to $231.41 (excl GST) / $254.551 (incl GST) per year and the concession is applied directly to your electricity bills.

This concession is available to the valid concession card holders who have an active electricity account with Discover Energy.

If you have a valid concession card, you do not need to apply. Simply add your concession details to your account.

An electricity account holder whose annual electricity costs are above $2,947 and holds one of the eligible cards.

If you receive the Life support concession or the Medical cooling concession you will be automatically eligible to receive the Excess gas concession after submitting a completed application form.

Annual Electricity Concession have a yearly rebate cap. Once you have reached the rebate limit for either of these concessions, we will check to see if you need to apply for the Excess Energy Concession and send you an application form.

Valid concession card holders whose home has a dual element or smart electricity meter, and the rebate value is 13% of the controlled load usage charges for your electric hot water or slab heating.

Valid concession card holders with a medical condition that makes it difficult to self-regulate their body temperature when exposed to extreme heat or cold and the rebate value is 17.5% of electricity charges from 1 November to 30 April - the hottest 6 months of the year.

Valid concession cardholders who don’t use a lot of electricity. If your supply charge is more than your usage charges, you could get a rebate on your electricity bill. If the electricity use on a bill is lower than the service charge, the service charge is reduced to the cost of the electricity used. The concession is based on your usage cost before any solar credits are deducted.

Rebate is automatically applied when your valid concession is registered with us.

Valid concession card holders using an electrically-operated life support machine. The Life Support Concession can give you a rebate on your electricity bills, equal to the cost of 1,880 kWh of electricity per year. The rebate is calculated using the general domestic tariff of your retailer. This rebate is paid quarterly.

To register for a Life Support Rebate status with Discover Energy:

Download and complete the Life Support Concession Form. Ask your doctor to sign it and confirm that you need the equipment. Send the completed form to us by email: customerservice@discoverenergy.com.au

You’ll be considered eligible if you’re:

a. A single income household earning $2,000 or less a fortnight

b. A dual income household earning $3,038 or less a fortnight

And have also experienced one or more of the following:

a. A recent drop in income or job loss

b. You, or someone in your household has experienced family violence

c. Unexpected high costs for essential items

d. Your rent or mortgage costs are more than 30% of your total household income

Up to $650 toward your electricity account and up to $650 toward your natural gas account, once in a 2-year period, if you have both energy types. If you have only electricity you can get the full $1,300 toward this.

Important info to help you fill out your URGS application:

1. Your details

Make sure you provide your name, address and contact phone number. You’ll also need to indicate what utility services you’re applying for help with.

2. The due date

You must return your completed form by the due date. You'll find this listed on your application form. Remember, the quicker you get your form in, the quicker you could receive financial assistance.

3. Household information

You'll need to include some of your household information. Listing any concession details (if applicable) and your household income.

4. Reason for your application

This is a mandatory section. You need to meet at least one of the four criteria listed in the application form (or see above in "Who may be eligible"). So, please make sure you complete the options that apply to you and include as much information as you can.

5. Documentation

If applying due to decreased income or unexpected expenses you may need to include your last 3 payslips or a bank statement.

If applying due to a family violence situation, a signed statutory declaration or a referral from a community organisation is requested. Should this not we possible, you'll find more options in your application form.

6. Sign and date
